Benefits of Garage Door Maintenance
Let’s face it: Garage Door Maintenance is not exactly a sexy topic. Sure, we here at Helotes Overhead Garage Doors care about your garage door systems, but we’re also realistic and understand that it’s not nearly as appreciated by the general population as it is in our office.
In fact, you probably never think about your garage door unless there’s an issue with it. While it’s not common to think about the garage door system in your daily routine, you probably should try and give it more consideration. After all, your garage door is one of the largest moving systems in your entire home. It gets opened countless times throughout the year, and all that movement and friction can cause a lot of wear and tear on your garage door and its components.
That being said, there are some very legitimate and important reasons to consider a garage door maintenance plan for your home.
1. Maintenance Prevents Damage to Your Garage Door
Maintaining your garage door may not seem like the most fun way to spend your afternoon, but it does ensure that all your springs, cables, openers, rollers and openers are likely to stay in good working shape. When these components are functioning correctly, it can help increase the longevity of your garage door.
They may seem heavy and sturdy, but most residential garage doors in San Antonio are actually pretty easy to damage. They’re made of a thin layer of steel that is relatively easy to dent, warp, and even crumble. The easiest way to cause serious damage to the door (aside from backing into it with your car) is to let your system break down. When cables snap, springs break, and rollers bust, your door can get caught in an awkward position and wind up causing some serious damage. It doesn’t take much to turn your home into this:
2. Maintenance is Cost Effective
Compared to the cost of replacing and installing a new garage door or repairing the existing door, simply maintaining the components of your door is much more cost effective. In fact, we offer a great tune-up special, and it’s significantly less expensive than having to do more serious, substantial garage door services. A simple tune-up twice a year will help ensure that your garage door system keeps operating correctly and prevent costly repairs.
3. Maintenance Prevents Damage to Your Home or Vehicle
We’ve already talked about how a faulty garage door system could cause major damage to your door, but did you realize it could also be a disaster for your home and/or your vehicle? Most garage doors malfunction and break while trying to move, and the only time the garage door is moving is when you’re trying to go in or out of the garage. That means your vehicle could be directly underneath a door when it fails, causing it to fall on your vehicle – or worse – on a family member who is walking in or out. The damage that can cause could be catastrophic.
Even if you get lucky and you’re not putting yourself or your vehicle in danger when a garage door fails, door malfunctions can also cause immense damage to your home. While they’re not indestructible, garage door systems are heavy and when one goes awry, it can cause significant harm to the building structure around it.
4. Maintenance Increases Your Home Security
Ensuring that your garage door is working properly helps prevent any unauthorized access from intruder or thieves. When you garage door system breaks down, those with bad intentions could have easier access to your possessions and your home. Think about the items that you store in the garage. Wouldn’t you hate to come home and see that they had been taken during your absence because someone was able to pry open your door due to an easily corrected issue?
5. Maintenance Makes You Better Looking
Ok, maybe it doesn’t technically make you better looking, but we had to make sure you’re still paying attention. However, maintaining a garage door does help keep your garage door functioning correctly, with significantly reduces the likelihood of a malfunction that would cause the garage door to look much less appealing. One of the drawbacks to garage door systems is that it’s not difficult to notice when something has gone wrong with one, and it makes the entire house look a little bit more dinged and damaged. Simply preventing this with garage door maintenance will help ensure you’ve got the best looking driveway and garage on the block.
